An advocate for music

Titus Gant is a Music Educator, Performer, and Advocate. Born in Reevesville, South Carolina, his musical journey began when he was just seven years old singing with his family and often backing his father, a minister and a singer.  Like many musicians, Titus' musical ability was grown at his home church where he sang and played drums. At ten years old Titus began to play saxophone. By his senior year he earned a full scholarship to Claflin University, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education while studying under Bryson Borgstedt.

Titus went on to do his postgraduate studies in the prestigious jazz program at North Carolina Central University—where he had the privilege to study under the late Dr. Brian Horton, Joey Calderazzo, and Branford Marsalis, and NCCU's other acclaimed jazz faculty.

Titus has also had the privilege of performing for former President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, House Representative Jim Clyburn, Phylicia Rashad, Eugene Robinson, Dr. Cornel West, and many more.

He has played with and behind world-class performers such as Mondre Moffet, Branford Marsalis, Kim Burrell, Jonathan Nelson, Kurt Karr, Brian Miller, Wil E. Coleman, Robert Trowers, to name a few.

His performances have been featured on NPR's State of Things WUNC, Fox 8 News,  and Triad City Beat.

Titus recently released his debut album entitled “One”.  This collection of original works combines groove, creativity, and expression of faith to form a unique sound within the Jazz tradition.

As an advocate for music, Titus works with students to transfer his love and appreciation of jazz music to the next generation. The Gant School of Music and Jazz is a non-profit created  by Titus to help underserved students gain access to the world of music and musicianship.
