<image:title>About Titus Gant - An advocate for music</image:title>
<image:caption>Titus Gant is a music educator, jazz saxophonist, and nonprofit founder committed to building sustainable pathways for arts education and cultural excellence. A native of Reevesville, South Carolina, his musical journey began in the church, where he sang with his family and played drums before discovering the saxophone at age ten. By his senior year of high school, he earned a full scholarship to Claflin University, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education while studying under Bryson Borgstedt. He later completed postgraduate studies in the prestigious jazz program at North Carolina Central University, where he studied under the late Dr. Brian Horton, Joey Calderazzo, Branford Marsalis, and other distinguished faculty. These experiences shaped both his artistic voice and his approach to teaching, grounding his work in both tradition and innovation. Since 2008, Titus has worked extensively as an educator across public schools, private instruction, and community-based programming. His teaching centers on developing technical skill, musical understanding, and personal discipline, while also cultivating a deep appreciation for jazz as an evolving art form rooted in cultural history and expression. As a performer, Titus has shared the stage with acclaimed artists including Branford Marsalis, Kim Burrell, Jonathan Nelson, Kurt Karr, Mondre Moffet, Robert Trowers, Brian Miller and others. He has performed for national and cultural leaders such as President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Phylicia Rashad, Eugene Robinson, and Dr. Cornel West to name a few. His work has been featured on NPR’s The State of Things (WUNC), and various other news outlets. In 2022, he released his debut album One, a collection of original compositions that blends jazz tradition, groove, and spiritual expression. Beyond performance, Titus is the Founder and Executive Director of the Gant School of Music and Jazz (GMAJ), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established to expand access to high-quality music education. Under his leadership, GMAJ provides private lessons, ensemble training, scholarships, and community-based programming, while forming strategic partnerships to strengthen arts education across the region. Through intentional program design, consistent instruction, and performance-based learning, GMAJ creates structured opportunities for students to grow as musicians and individuals. The organization’s work reaches audiences of thousands annually through workshops, recitals, and community engagement, while maintaining a focused commitment to student development and access. Through both artistic excellence and institutional leadership, Titus Gant continues to shape the cultural and educational landscape of his community, building systems that will serve future generations of musicians.</image:caption>
